Alter-native Energy Festival was born in 2007 in Sicily, Italy. A group of researchers, cultural promoters and volunteers gathered to create a new concept of Festival, a cultural box where different ideas and experiences met with a very simple mission:
“To promote the culture of renewable energies and their daily use so to create a community of artists, performers, cultural operators, companies and public bodies meeting every year to increase the practical uses of green energy with the support of “alter-native” artists, “alter” as quality artists, and “native” as local artists”.
The idea was to create an independent festival completely fueled by private companies operating in the green economy sector. After eight editions, the Festival wants to go abroad and it is looking for international partners to bring its experience in other countries. In these years, thanks to the collaboration with important cultural institutions such as Instituto Cervantes, Goethe Institut, Centre Culturelle Francais, the Festival brought in Palermo many international artists from Spain, France and the UK.
